The Cancer & Hematology Centers Opens Cancer Clinic in Big Rapids

CHC Big Rapids is Cancer & Hematology’s Sixth Clinic and First in Northern Michigan

June 28, 2023Grand Rapids, MI – The Cancer & Hematology Centers, a large Michigan-based community oncology practice, announced today the opening of its Big Rapids, clinic on July 10 at 15100 220th Ave.

The clinic, which is The Cancer & Hematology Center’s sixth cancer care clinic and first beyond its West Michigan community roots, will have two medical oncologists, Kathrine Cooper, MD, and William Fabricius, MD, as well as an Advanced Practice Provider. The care team will also include Infusion, triage nurses, front office staff, medical assistants, pharmacy, lab, research personnel, a social worker, and financial care coordinators.

“I look forward to continuing to help patients in rural communities near where I grew up, and where I cared for patients in Reed City,” said Dr. Cooper. “By bringing subspecialized hematology and cancer care to Big Rapids and the surrounding communities, patients can now see physicians who focus on one or two cancer types, giving them depth to expertise cancer care as well as access to a broad range of clinical trials.”

The Cancer & Hematology Centers, which was formerly known as the Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, recently rebranded itself as it grows by adding physicians and practices caring for patients across the state.  This year the practice also launched a Cancer Drug Repository (CDR) program to accept qualified unused oral cancer drug donations from individuals so they can be used for free by another Michigan resident who meets specific eligibility criteria described in state law

Mark Campbell, MD, who founded the Cancer & Hematology Centers in 1979,  and has grown the practice from 1 physician and 1 nurse to 23 physicians who offer the highest quality cancer care services and clinical trials, says that bringing the highest-quality and most cost-effective cancer care and new clinical trials to patients in Northern Michigan is a key priority for his practice.

“We are bringing doctors and the entire cancer team out to the smaller rural communities in Northern Michigan, so they get the same level of care you would get in the city,” Dr. Campbell said. “We are focused on providing care and treatments to patients in communities where they live.”
